Paul Safar is a LIVING composer of “Art Music” - active listening, concert or theatre based music. His origina
l compositions continue the western classical music tradition as well as incorporate his love of jazz, pop and rock styles. Paul tries to push his creative abilities in each new project while maintaining accessibility for an audience. The majority of his output has been piano, chamber, vocal and theatrical pieces. Paul welcomes commissions and collaboration.
As a performer, Paul works as a solo pianist as well as a frequent accompanist of soprano Nancy Wood. Nancy and Paul have been presenting premiere pieces of contemporary composers through Cherry Blossom Musical Arts' “Art Music Live in the 21st Century” series. This duo is available for hire fortheir eclectic mix of art songs from around the world. In a slightly different vein, Paul and Nancy lead a fun, grooving group called “The Love Truffle” (piano, bass, drums, sax with vocals by Paul and Nancy) which plays jazz infused world music and reinvented Beatles songs. Keep an ear out for them at Eugene's Saturday Market and outdoor summer concerts.
As a teacher, Paul enjoys a busy piano teaching studio working with ages 6-60. The students present recitals open to the public twice a year. Call 541-868-5725 for more info.
